His Dark Materials, Golden Compass Ch 22-23: Ad Astra!

To the stars! Or to wherever Lyra just went.

Join us as we trek up the icy ridge of sorting Lord Asriel (00:04:17), up the snowy hill of Ch 22 (00:12:21), over the trembling bridge of Ch 23 (00:33:41), into the aurora-bright alethiometer readings (01:08:33), peering through to a new world for the Mixtape (01:13:13), and we’ll finish torturing this metaphor with the Extra Award (01:18:57), then wrap it all up (01:20:50).

This week, we would like to know what alethiometer symbols you would assign to the whole book. Let us know what you think via twitter (@extraneouspod) or IG (@extraneous.pod), or better yet send us a voicemail at extraneouspod@gmail.comand we can play it on the show!

Remember to rate/review/etc! Also make sure to check out the His Dark Materials Mixtape!

His Dark Materials, Golden Compass, Ch 21: Just a F’in Ravenclaw

Lord Asriel is here to Dumbledore this for you. (Warning, we curse a little bit in this episode.)

There’s no sorting this week, or perhaps we’re ALWAYS sorting? Because we don’t know if Asriel is a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin, but it’s probable he’s one of those. Join us to discuss Chapter 21, Lord Asriel’s Welcome, where he finally faces a defiant Lyra (00:03:20), then our Alethiometer reading (01:19:12), the Mixtape (01:25:09) and the Extra Award (01:33:29)!

Next week, we finish the book. Then we’ll start having some guests on to unpack it all.

Let us know what you think via twitter (@extraneouspod) or IG (@extraneous.pod), or better yet send us a voicemail at extraneouspod@gmail.com and we can play it on the show!
